The meetings will be held in the Albert Luthuli Convention Center, named after a founding father of the governing African National Congress who became South Africa’s first Nobel peace laureate. The main work of the meeting will take place in two plenary sessions on: - Local Government dialogue on the role of youth in city crime prevention strategies
- Police dialogue on the role of youth in city crime prevention strategies
There will also be six special meetings covering: - Impact of armed violence on children and youth
- Sports as a means of crime prevention
- Art, music and dance as a tool for crime prevention
- The role of schools and universities in fighting
- The role of youth organisations in crime prevention and community safety
- Safe recreation for children and youth
There will be a series of side events. These include a street concert celebrating the life of South African reggae musician Lucky Dube who was murdered by criminals, a street-soccer clinic and championship, and visits to local community safety and scouting projects. The summit will close with the opening of a reginal training centre of excellence on youth crime prevention and safer cities, and the presdentation of International Cities Awards on youth crime prevention.
