TRAVEL, VISA AND ACCOMODATION |
All details about travel, visa and accomodation will be communicated with the winners, so keep an eye on your e-mail if you are on this list.
The competition, which ran for a month, attracted participants from no less than 52 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, North- and South America. All in all, Baobab received 1131 entries in seven different languages.
Together we made history with a record amount of entries Kirundi and Swahili (spoken in Burundi and throughout East Africa). The jury also received many contributions in French, English and Spanish. Some entries came from places where Internet access is still scarce such as Burkina Faso.
We were also happy to receive plenty of multimedia entries. Some members recorded rap songs, others submitted photo reports or videos from spoken word performances.
Community
The competition was well received by the growing Baobab community. The discussion forum hosted an ongoing discussion in English and French about some of the issues around youth and violence. Also, many entries were tagged with comments, suggestions and criticism from members.
The jury
The YOur City competition jury was made up of representatives of Baobabconnections and its partner organizations:
Moses Mbasu (Kenya), Petna Ndaliko (Congo/Uganda), Yehudi van de Pol, Suzanne Bessem, Thomas Gesthuizen (Netherlands), Gavin Sheppard (Canada), Claude Ngomsi (Cameroon/Kenya), Lise Iradukunda (Burundi) and Jeyffer Renteria (Colombia).
Together they came to a conclusive list of twenty youth from around the world to attend the Summit in Durban.
AGAIN: BIG THANKS TO ALL THE ENTRIES!
Durban here we come!!!!!
